A widespread rain spell is expected across Pakistan starting today, as the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasts thunderstorms, strong winds, and hailstorms in multiple regions.
According to the forecast, the weather system will affect most parts of the country from March 24 to March 30, with intermittent breaks.
The system is being driven by a western disturbance entering southwestern areas, which is expected to intensify later in the week.
Rain and Thunderstorms Across All Provinces
The weather pattern will impact all major regions:
- Punjab: Cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan are expected to receive rain and thunderstorms, with chances of hailstorms.
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Rain with snowfall in hilly areas such as Swat, Chitral and Abbottabad.
- Sindh: Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur likely to experience showers on multiple days during the spell.
- Balochistan: Heavy rain expected in Quetta, Gwadar, Turbat and surrounding districts.
- Gilgit-Baltistan & Kashmir: Rain with snowfall in mountainous regions.
The second, more intense phase of rainfall is expected between March 28 and March 30.
Flood and Landslide Warnings Issued
Authorities have warned of potential hazards during the weather spell:
- Flash floods likely in parts of Balochistan between March 25–28
- Flood risk in streams and nullahs of KP from March 28–30
- Landslides possible in upper KP, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir
Heavy rain combined with strong winds and lightning may also damage weak infrastructure such as electric poles, billboards, and solar panels.
Impact on Daily Life and Agriculture
The weather system is expected to disrupt travel and daily routines in several areas, particularly where heavy rainfall or storms occur.
Farmers have been advised to take precautionary measures to protect crops, while citizens are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions.
Tourists visiting northern areas have also been warned to remain cautious due to the risk of landslides and difficult road conditions.
