Sialkot Stallionz leadership has undergone a sudden change just weeks before the start of the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL) season, with co-owner Kamil Khan announcing his exit from the franchise. Khan’s departure adds to the uncertainty around the team’s administrative setup ahead of PSL 11.
Khan said in a statement posted on social media that he joined the Stallionz leadership “out of deep love for Pakistan cricket” and took responsibility for the franchise’s cricketing operations. During his short tenure, he noted significant early progress, including the signing of Australian star Steve Smith, the appointment of former Australia captain Tim Paine as coach, and a commercial partnership with sportswear brand New Balance.
Reason for Departure and Transition Details
Khan said his decision to step away came after “certain management decisions” and careful consideration. He added that although the choice was made earlier, the exit was delayed to ensure the franchise was left in “safe hands.”
His departure coincides with developments surrounding the Stallionz ownership structure. Sources indicate a new party has agreed in principle to acquire more than 90 percent of the franchise’s shares, effectively ending administrative control by the Oz Group, the Australian-linked consortium that secured the team for Rs1.85 billion during the PSL expansion auction.
Under PSL rules, a full transfer of ownership is restricted within the first three years of a franchise’s establishment. As a result, the incoming party will likely join as a strategic partner rather than as a full owner. An official announcement from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) or franchise is expected next week.
End of Akram’s Association
The franchise’s broader leadership changes extend beyond Khan’s exit. Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram, who was linked with the Stallionz presidency, has confirmed he is no longer serving in that role. Akram said no formal agreement was signed and that discussions were limited to phone calls, signalling his disengagement from the team’s leadership.
Broader Context: Sialkot Stallionz and PSL Expansion
Sialkot Stallionz is one of two new franchises introduced for the PSL 11 season, which will run from March 26 to May 3, 2026. The franchise rights were won at the January auction by Oz Group for Rs1.85 billion, making it the most expensive bid among the new teams.
The Stallionz name and identity were unveiled earlier this year, tapping into the legacy of the earlier Sialkot Stallions domestic team, which was historically one of Pakistan’s most successful T20 sides.
Khan’s exit marks an early test for the franchise’s stability and operational continuity as it prepares to compete in its debut PSL season. Ensuring leadership clarity and financial footing will be critical as players, staff and fans await the start of the tournament.
